Darrah I Pech, Chapa Dara District, Kunar Province, Afghanistan

Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
4.7 × 2.9 × 2.6 cm
Description

Beryl specimens from the Darra I Pech pegmatite district have been trickling on to the market since the early 1990's. The area is well known for both its morganite and aquamarine varieties of beryl. Very occassionally as with this complete crystal the two varities occur to gether. This prism has the typical beryl barrel shape grading from translucent to transparent, with a pitted and naturally etched surface and a small amount of microcline and albite adhering to the back of the specimen. Of interest however is the distinct pink colour to part of the lower half of this crystal.
