Sklodowskite & Gypsum

Classic Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Plaka Mines, Plaka, Lavrion District, Attiki Prefecture, Greece
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
6.9 × 5.2 × 0.8 cm
Description

Killer example of sklodowskite from Lavrion. This uranium mineral was first discovered in 2016 in Lavrion and has never been found again. It was a shock for the Greek mineral collectors as we have never had a better uranium mineral from Greece before. This is a fine example with sklodowskite both enclosed in water-clear gypsum (that protects it too) and also freestanding.
