Aragonite Azurite & Malachite

Classic Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Christiana Mine, Kamariza, Agios Konstantinos, Lavrion District, Attiki Prefecture, Greece
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Small cabinet (7-10 cm)
Size:
8.6 × 6.8 × 4.1 cm
Description

A gemmy, beautiful group of colorless to pastel bluish, lustrous crystals of aragonite are sitting on a complex contrasting matrix. The aragonites are in excellent condition as opposed to the mostly heavily damaged other ones, this is why I was keeping this beauty in my collection. The matrix is interesting too as it hosts unusual formations of goethite possibly as a pseudomorph after another mineral. Azurite is present and malachite too, probably as a pseudomorph after cuprite. I am sure that there a few more minerals in there that you can discover with good magnification and observation or analysis. Just a killer of the species from Greece.
