Description Tabs

Description

Avissalos, Serifos Island, Milos, South Aegean, Greece
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
6.4 × 5.5 × 3.5 cm
Description

For many years and despite the various publications, all of the "iron roses" from Seriphos were considered to be hematite. However, it seems that nobody bothered to analyze or try to id some of these roses. Some of them are highly magnetic and are in fact magnetite that has replaced hematite roses. In this particular specimen, we have a fine association of brown, sharp, dodecahedral crystals of andradite with dark edges, associated with several "iron roses" of magnetite after hematite!
