Classic Locality

Description Tabs

Description

Plaka Mines, Plaka, Lavrion District, Attiki Prefecture, Greece
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
6.5 × 4.8 × 3 cm
Description

A bit more than a year ago, it was the one and only time that this rare uranium mineral was ever found in Greece. All of the specimens are associated with gypsum but only a few are combined with beautiful ram's horn gypsum like this one. But it is not only the combination that makes this a special one. The gypsum covered sklodowskite aggergate that it hosts measures 0.5cm across  and is a large size compared to the typical 0.05-0.1cm sizes of sklodowskite from this find. A superb example of this rare and unique for Greece species and a fine aesthetic specimen.

As with all specimens from this fixed-price page, there is a video of this specimen available so please contact me to send you the link.
