Rhodochrosite & Sphalerite

Classic Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Madem-Lakkos Mine, Chalkidiki Prefecture, Central Macedonia, Greece
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
6.7 × 6.1 × 3.2 cm
Description

This is an old-timer from this classic and now closed locality. The combination of sulphides from Chalkidiki with rhodochrosite is the most desirable among Greek collectors, though extremelly hard to find nowadays. This is a fine example with wet-lustrous, pale pink crystals of rhodochrosite, "embracing" metallic-black crystals of sphalerite. The condition is great for such an old piece. There seems to be a bit of damage on the peripheral crystals.
