Pyrite Quartz & Calcite

Classic Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Madem-Lakkos Mine, Chalkidiki Prefecture, Central Macedonia, Greece
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Small cabinet (7-10 cm)
Size:
8 × 4.8 × 3.8 cm
Description

Pyrite from Chalkidiki used to be common in the 90s. However, most specimens were heavily damaged because of the mining conditions. Nowadays, any mineral specimen from this locality is just too hard to find as they no longer are available from sale, unless a collection is sold. This is a very good example of pyrite, with striated, highly lustrous, cubic crystals of pyrite, associated with quartz and calcite. There is some damage but for the locality, the condition is very good.
