Calcite & Hedenbergite

Classic Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Megalo Livadi, Serifos Island, Milos, South Aegean, Greece
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
5.5 × 4 × 2.5 cm
Description

Sharp, lustrous, scalenohedral crystals of calcite, with a whitish fibrous mineral on them, which I guess is hedenbergite. Although calcite is a common mineral, you don't get a decent Seriphos calcite because most of the collectors look for prasem quartz there. So these are rare and impossible to find nowadays because collecting is strictly forbidden in Seriphos.
