Description

Extraordinary big piece for the type and locality is this specimen featuring a hexagonal columnar crystal of nice internal trapiche structure, good lustre and greenish-golden colour. This is a classic Japanese pseudomorph were the original habitus is preserved. The initial indialite + cordierite intergrowths were replaced by sericite (a kind of microcrystalline muscovite with deficiencies in K). This pseudomorph is called Cerasite (of Kikuchi), also known as sakura ishi (in Japanese), meaning cherry blossom stone.

This big piece was collected at a small outcrop of the hornfels by Alfredo Petrov in 05/2005. It comes with a copy of his handwritten label.
