Octahedral crystals of cuprite on a matrix formed by rhombohedral crystallized dolomite that is coated by blue chrysocolla. The cuprite crystals have a superb lustre, are well exposed, and are in perfect condition, associated to a cluster of green malachite crystals. The cherry red colour is very intense and gets an impressive gemmy red colour if backlighted.

This “candy” was in the collection of Joseph Lhoest, a Belgian doctor who worked in DR of Congo for many years, and it is well known for his early 1990’s articles about Congo in journals such as The Mineralogical Record or Lapis.

Found before 1985. Ex Joseph Lhoest specimen.
