Description

From a recent find in the West region of Mauritania, coming directly from a local miner, this is a gemmy Herkimer-type diamond quartz, with transparent oily inclusions that are strongly fluorescent in white-blue under long and short UV light. Typical pieces from this locality are very rich in black flattened inclusions, mostly parallelly oriented to the rhombohedral faces, such as this one but with no fluorescent inclusions. This floater piece is also rich in tiny gas bubbles and other transparent inclusions that are not fluorescent, and black flattened inclusions. I selected this piece because of the size, transparency, richness in fluorescent inclusions and condition. These usually have some erosions of different degree, probably because locals are not used to manage specimens for collectors.

Found in October 2019.
