Description

We all know that quartz is common. However “real” capped quartz such as this specimen is very rare and an historical sample such as this make it all extremely rare, and seldom available in the market. Capped quartz are specimens with loosely connected or easily separable parts that correspond to different growth phases, that were separated by a thin layer that disrupted the continuous growth.

This historical piece comes with 4 original labels, where Horní Slavkov (Schlaggenwald in German) in Böhmen is the given as locality. Some dating can be stablish with two of them: The label from Wilhelm Maucher (1879-1930), Maucherite, that can be dated to before 1917, when he changed the design of his labels. The label of Königlich-Sächsische Mineralien-Niederlage zu Freiberg, (Royal Saxon mineral repository, Freiberg), can be dated back to before 1909.

Ex Wilhelm Maucher specimen.
