Locality:
Shinkolobwe Mine, Shinkolobwe, Kambove, Haut-Katanga, DR Congo
Class:
Crystal Group/Cluster
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
4.7 × 3.1 × 2.1 cm
Description

Compact masses of canary yellow uranophane in a quite uncommon matrix, rich in muscovite from Shinkolobwe. It was just labelled as “radiactive Shinkolobwe” so we sent the specimen for SEM-EDS analyses and uranophane was the result.

The piece is from a small collection of reference pieces, from Mr. Robert Verdoodt, who was working in the laboratories of Union Minière du Haut-Katanga and evacuated to Belgium after the beginning of the Congo crisis in 1960.
