Description

Infrequent specimen featuring a tetragonal crystal of scheelite that has been completely replaced by microcrystalline anthoinite. Even if Rwanda was previously part of the old Belgian Congo, it is not usual to see this specimen in Belgian collections. Sometimes we can see crystals of scheelite replaced by both black porous ferberite and white anthoinite. However this pseudomorphs just after anthoinite from the old Gifurwe mines in Rwanda are extremely rare to see, even in museums. Furthermore the specimen shows a significant blueish yellow fluorescence under short UV light, which is not common in these specimens.

Collected in the 1960’s by professor Albert Delvaux (1919-1998).

Ex Iván Blanco collection.
