Description

Floater crystal group from a new find in the West region of Mauritania, coming directly from a local miner. It features a gemmy Herkimer-type diamond quartz, with oily inclusions that are strongly fluorescent in white-blue under UV light. I have seen about 50 pieces and they are usually smaller than 30 mm. Typical pieces from this locality are very rich in black flattened inclusions, mostly parallelly oriented to the rhombohedral faces, and they are not fluorescent. This piece is also rich in gas bubbles and other transparent inclusions that are not fluorescent, and black flattened inclusions.

I selected this piece because of the size, transparency, richness in fluorescent inclusions and the good condition, but they usually contain micro-chippings in different degree, probably because locals are not use to manage specimens for collectors.

Found in October 2019.
