Description

Old classic specimen of bright chrysoberyl crystals in a twinned cluster formed a repeated penetration twin on {130} forming a pseudohexagonal aggregate. The vitreous lustre is very intense, partially gemmy and of intense colour. It is a floater specimen, in very good condition formed by crystals faces or stepped contact surfaces with the matrix at the base, but not broken.

Furthermore, it shows a weak UV fluorescence in yellow under SW light. The Colatina deposit was exploited in the 1930’s and 40’s.

Acquired in late 1970’s by Dr. Gerard Vogel.
