Crystals on Matrix

1.40cm
Description

Sharp gemmy crystals of glauberite with great vitreous lustre and usual striations for prismatic developments. They are so transparent that are hard to photo. In the contrast to the primary crystals, such as the other I offer in this auction (PDM838968) these are secondary crystals, that grew filling cavities in an environment free of organic matter, so they are quite clean, gemmy and are not fluorescent. This specimen is rich in such crystals, with minor grey clay, well exposed off the matrix.

I collected this specimen back in 2004 at the Consuelo Mine, that produced long ago the World-best glauberite crystals during the short period it was exploited at the a XIX Century, from 1880 to 1889.

Ex I.Blanco collection.
