Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Imilchil, Errachidia Province, Drâa-Tafilalet Region, Morocco
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
5.3 × 5.1 × 2.9 cm
Description

Floater aggregate of K feldspar, variety adularia, with incipient “adularescence”, somewhat not strong enough to call it moonstone. The exact locality was not revealed when I bought a small group of such pieces at Imilchil, back in 2009. Miners told me that they were completely covered by a powdery iron oxides, and the “geode” was just about 20 cm in size.

Anyway, such adularia specimens are very uncommon at the Imilchil area, and they have an important geological significance.

Found in 08/2009.
