Description

This is a big and very rich specimen composed almost exclusively by green microcrystals of hibschite, a grossular variety, with minor black microcrystalline chromite, a garnetite-chromitite rock. It is a representative block of "Transvaal Jade" or “Budstone”, and super rare in this size in collections. This rocks where originated by metamorphism of very old Paleoproterozoic rocks (~2000 million years old).

Ex Josef Verbist specimen, obtained before 1980 from Gilbert Gauthier, who carried out a collecting/buying trip in the early 1960’s throw Northern Rhodesia (Zambia), Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe), South Africa and South West Africa (Namibia).
