Description

Polycrystalline metamorphosed rock of green amphibolite with enriched zones of gold flakes and elongated gold crystals!!. The first time I saw this specimen I thought that the associated label “Gold Witwatersrand, South Africa” was not from this specimen, cause I never saw such kind of rock holding gold from Witwatersrand, being mostly grey quartz. However, a peer review of the specimen evidenced that holds many gold flakes and elongated wire-like gold crystals, probably twins along [111].

Mr. Virlet obtained this specimen in 1962 from his good friend, the geologist Gilbert Gauthier. Ex. René Virlet specimen.
