Description

A good and rare old specimen with well-defined thin tabular crystals of baryte completely replaced by lustrous polycrystalline malachite. The aggregate is a flower-like association from the Shangulowé, where these world-class pseudomorphs of malachite after baryte were found long ago.

This was collected before 1960, it is from the stock of Robert Verdoodt, who was working in the laboratories of Union Minière du Haut-Katanga and evacuated to Belgium after the beginning of the Congo crisis in 1960.
