Description

Aggregate of transparent interpenetrated baryte crystals, that reach 18mm, with light greenish-blue coloured inclusions. Traditionally these barytes have been considered to be coloured by malachite, but after a Raman analysis we could not conclude what the colouring phase is (probably chrysocolla? or a Cu-Si rich gel?), but it is not malachite for sure.

Found before 1960, the specimen is from the stock of Robert Verdoodt, who was working in the laboratories of Union Minière du Haut-Katanga and evacuated to Belgium after the beginning of the Congo crisis that very year.
