Sipi Caves, Mount Elgon, Manafwa District, Eastern Region, Uganda
Class:
Crystal Group/Cluster
Size Range:
Small cabinet (7-10 cm)
Size:
7.8 × 4.6 × 2.2 cm
Description

Nice specimen featuring two branches of wood replaced by brown calcite and white natrolite needles. Interestingly in this specimen, the orange coloured calcite are a geopetal indicator, cause that grew when the hollow branches were partially filled by calcite at the base, leaving open the hollow upper part that was filled lately by white natrolite. The calcite are orange fluorescent under UV light. The external bark of the branches are also preserved in good detail.

Found in 02/2012 at the Mount Elgon (a remote locality in Uganda) by the Dutch collector Bert Biemold.
