Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Mount Ayachi, Midelt Province, Drâa-Tafilalet Region, Morocco
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Cabinet (10-18 cm)
Size:
13.5 × 7 × 3.7 cm
Largest Crystal:
2.90cm
Description

Cubic crystals of fluorite of intense purplish blue colour and good lustre. The cube edges are modified by flat rhombic dodecahedron faces while the triangular octahedral faces are spiky, rich in recrystallizations. Interestingly some cube faces have a nice coating of white microcrystalline quartz, that inhibited partially the development of these cubic faces. This is a good size specimen where the main cubes reach 22 mm of edge!. The intracrystalline space was occupied by amber-white calcite that has been removed almost completely by acid etching.

Finally, I have to point out that these have been traditionally sold as to be from “Tounfit”, but these are all coming from the nearby localities at the Jebel Ayachi that I have visited and sampled.

Found in 09/2015.
