Description

This is a big crystal from a new beautiful find in the West region of Mauritania, coming directly from a local miner. It features gemmy Herkimer-type diamond quartz, doubly-terminated and floater crystal with yellow petroleum inclusions that are strongly fluorescent in white under UV light. I have seen about 50 pieces and they are usually smaller than 30 mm. Typical pieces from this locality are very rich in black flattened inclusions, mostly parallelly oriented to the rhombohedral faces, and they are not fluorescent. This piece is also very rich in gas bubbles and transparent inclusion that are not fluorescent. I selected these pieces because of the size and gemmyness, they are rich in fluorescent inclusions and they are in good condition, but they usually contain chippings in different degree, probably because locals are not use to manage specimens for collectors.

Found in October 2019.
