Description

This is from a new beautiful find in the West region of Mauritania, coming directly from a local miner. It features gemmy Herkimer-type diamond quartz, doubly-terminated and floater crystal with yellow to green petroleum inclusions that are strongly fluorescent in white under UV light. I have seen about 50 pieces and they are usually smaller than 30 mm. Typical pieces from this locality (see specimens PDM751765 or PDM751766) are very rich in black flattened inclusions of pyrobitumen, mostly parallelly oriented to the rhombohedral faces, and they are not fluorescent. However I selected this piece because they are big and quite clean, they are rich in fluorescent inclusions and they are in good condition, but they usually contain chippings in different degree, probably because locals are not use to manage specimens for collectors.

Found in October 2019.
