Description

From the Kamiaba region, a very remote locality close to the border with Zambia, this specimen features an euhedral, deep red rhombic dodecahedral crystal of almandine, with good definition of stepped and lustrous faces and net edges. It is free of damages and displays perfectly 360°. It is on a matrix of white calcite and grey silicates.

The specimen was collected before 1968 by René Virlet, a Belgian colonist who visited the locality at least two times together with collectors Gilbert Gauthier and Roger Van Dooren. Uncommon locality specimen in collections, these garnets have never been abundant at all.
