Description

Self-collected crystallized halite from near Souk El Arba du Ghrab. As shown in a picture, the Triassic salt layers outcrops at the north of Souk El Arba du Ghrab village. These salt deposits are partially dissolved in the depth by pumping fresh waters. The resulted salt-rich waters are pumped back to the surface and evaporated under the sun, where pure man-made halite is crystallized. So please notice that this specimen is not a man-made evaporated salt, but primary crystallized Late Triassic salt, of about 205 Millions Years old!.

Collected by Dr Iván Blanco on August/14th/2015.
