Small cabinet (7-10 cm)

Description

Even if calcite is very common in Katanga, these specimens from Mindingi are really very hard to find. It features light pink rounded crystals of cobaltoan calcite on transparent quartz crystals and a crust of white dolomite. Tiny black heterogenite aggregates are spotted on the calcite crystals, which is typical for the locality. The crust is repaired but at the front side the reparation is invisible. From the collection of Robert Verdoodt, who was working in the laboratories of Union Minière du Haut-Katanga and evacuated to Belgium after the beginning of the Congo crisis in 1960.
