Quartz & Heterogenite

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Katanga Copper Crescent, Haut-Katanga, DR Congo
Class:
Crystal Group/Cluster
Size Range:
Small cabinet (7-10 cm)
Size:
7.7 × 5.5 × 5 cm
Description

A very interesting specimen of quartz from Congo featuring two generations. The crystals are transparent and were overgrown by a coating of very small spheres of black heterogenite. This coating inhibited partially the growth of subsequent snow-white quartz layers that developed only partially at some faces. The result is a quite uncommon and aesthetic piece of “frosted” quartz. The locality was just marked as Shaba (Zaire), so it is hard to know the exact locality.

Collected before 1968 by Martíal Borzee, a Belgian colonist to Congo.

Ex. Martíal Borzee specimen.
