Pseudomorph

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Shyorongi, Ruhengeri, Northern Province, Rwanda
Class:
Crystal Group/Cluster
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
5 × 2.6 × 2.1 cm
Description

A good size classic “reinite” pseudomorph from the Shyorongi area, far less common that those from Gifurwe or Bugarama, located also in Rwanda. It has some flat surfaces because the initial scheelite crystals were completely replaced by black microcrystalline ferberite. It is slightly porous and have some creamy quartz at the rear, where the contact with the matrix is. These have never been common in the market.

Ex. Walter De Keersmaecker specimen, who bought it from H. Janssen, a Belgian colonist in Rwanda until the end of the early 1960’s.
