Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Azcárate Quarry, Eugui, Esteríbar, Navarre, Spain
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
5.8 × 4 × 3.1 cm
Description

A group of completely transparent, water clear dolomite crystals with a very good lustre on matrix. They display multiple contact twins on {1000}, classic for the locality, producing an alignment of various crystals along the direction perpendicular to the twin plane. This alignment is also evidenced by striation along intersection of the {0001} and the main rhombohedral faces {10-11}.

This specimen is from a limited find made by Francisco Maello (ES) in 1991. Dolomite from Eugui is already considered a modern classic of the European mineralogy. Furthermore, the Azcarate Quarry is definitely closed and completely restored.
