Locality:
Jbel Taghouni, Bou Azzer, Ouarzazate Province, Drâa-Tafilalet Region, Morocco
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
5.9 × 5 × 4 cm
Description

Self-collected on September 5th/2015 at the Jbel Taghouni, the specimen is composed of two pentagonal dodecahedra, twinned on [110], the so called “Iron Cross Twin”. The pyrite crystals have been replaced by iron oxides, probably goethite. They are included in a hard, recrystallized quartz sandstone, which makes very difficult their extraction. Only a handful specimens could be recovered. A very interesting and uncommon specimen from the Bou Azer district in Morocco.
