Description

A big floater crystal of amethyst quartz from Norway of intense lustre and purple color. It is formed by crystal faces or contacts with other crystals and the base is naturally broken with evident etching figures. The point is sharp, undamaged, with bright rhombohedral faces that show triangular growth steps. The prim faces are also recrystallized and partially covered by tiny quartz and sulphides crystals.

According to Einar Teppen, the Norwegian collector who found the specimen in 2008, these were recovered mostly as loose crystals in a narrow fault zone that cut the granite at the Brynsåsen quarry. I would not say that these crystals are rare but are hard to find, and have never been abundant in the market. It does have some white marks of impacts at the prism side, probably due to the extraction process.
