Brynsåsen Quarry, Stange, Innlandet, Norway
Class:
Single Crystal
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
5.5 × 4.5 × 3.5 cm
Description

A fine crystal of amethyst quartz from the Brynsåsen Quarry (Norway) with core and top slightly smoky, and multiple phantom layers in between with a nice purple color. The point is sharp, undamaged, with bright rhombohedral faces that show triangular growth steps. The base is naturally broken cause it has a dull luster and some etching figures. The prim faces are also recrystallized and partially covered by tiny quartz crystals. Furthermore it is an incipient sceptre crystal.

According to Einar Teppen, the Norwegian collector who found the specimen in 2008, these were recovered mostly as loose crystals in a narrow fault zone that cut the granite rock. I would not say that these crystals are rare but are hard to find and have never been abundant in the market.
