Crocoite & Vauquelinite

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Callenberg North Open Cut #2, Callenberg, Glauchau, Zwickau, Saxony, Germany
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
5.7 × 4.2 × 3.7 cm
Description

A good specimen that features a matrix richly covered by big platy reddish-orange crocoite crystals with very acute terminations, where the main one riches 20 mm, and is perfectly located just in the centre of the specimen. Yellow-creamy coloured crusts of vauquelinite occupy the interlocked space between the crocoites, forming a structure with tubular cavities, suggesting that they are epimorphs, probably after pyromorphite crystals. In addition a 1 cm cavity, located at the rear of the specimen, is spotted by light orange rounded crystal aggregates of probably embreyite (last photo).

Ex. Gerard Vogel specimen, acquired in 1980.
