Description
Locality:
NChwaning II Mine, Kuruman, Kalahari, Northern Cape Province, South Africa
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
4.6 × 3.6 × 2.1 cm
Description

A beautiful aggregate of water clear, colourless gypsum crystals set on an olmiite/manganous matrix. These crystals are highly transparent and colourless despite the pink tinge seen in the images. I was unable to eliminate the colour from the photographs and beleive it to be due to internal reflections from a small inclusion of the same colour at the base of the crystals. The colour is not present in real life. Lovely specimen from a less frequently offered gypsum locality.
