Fluorite

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Granite Quarry, Shannapheasteen, Connemara, County Galway, Irish Republic (Eire)
Class:
Crystal Group/Cluster
Size Range:
Small miniature (3-4.5 cm)
Size:
3.5 × 2 × 1 cm
Description

Last night a 6 cm specimen of these was sold by a respected fluorite collector/dealer who said that during his years of collecting he never saw a fluorite from Ireland of the quality of this material. This recent discovery is clearly exceptional for the country and in his evaluation the material cannot be ranked high enough! The saphire blue crystals are bevelled (some with unusual wavey edges) and the lustre is high. There are lighter and dark areas with various zoning. Lots of amazing details and very tri-dimensional and aesthetic. No noticable damage to report.
