Size Range:
Cabinet (10-18 cm)

Description

I am selling this specimen for a retired geologist colleague who obtained it as part of a batch of specimens. It came without a label but he thought it might be hedenbergite or prehnite. Around the edges there are dark green crystals while the bulk of the specimen is an unusual duck egg blue. After a considerable time researching his suggestions I have provisionally assigned it to the listed hedebergite locality.  The green crystals around the edge are very similar to images from this mine listed on mindat and I have also found images of massive hedenbergite from the area that have this unusual duck egg blue colour.

A big ? against this specimen but setting that aside it is an unusual and attractive piece.

If any of you out there can enlighten me with a positive identification and location I would be very grateful.
