Harmotome With Calcite

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Whitesmith Mine, Strontian, Argyll, Scotland, United Kingdom
Class:
Crystals on Matrix
Size Range:
Small cabinet (7-10 cm)
Size:
8.3 × 5.5 × 2.5 cm
Description

A good sized specimen with well-formed and lustrous white harmotome crystals to 0.9 cm on translucent grey calcite crystals. This example is very unusual due to the associated calcite which is missing from almost all harmotome specimens from this locality. Harmotome is one of the rarest zeolite minerals and the Strontian mines have produced some of the world's best specimens. Under lighting this specimen is much nicer than the photographs suggest.
