Seathwaite Graphite Mine, Borrowdale, Cumbria, United Kingdom
Class:
Massive/Crystalline
Size Range:
Thumbnail (1-3cm)
Size:
2.8 × 2.5 × 1.6 cm
Description

A good example of classic Cumbrian graphite from the historic Seathwaite deposit first mined during the Roman occupation of Britain.

These specimens are becoming increasingly hard to source. Collected in the1980's.

I always put the graphite in my mineral cupboard to use when I have a squeaky hinge. A little rub with the solid lubricant is just as effective and less messy than oil, yet never detracts from the specimens appearance.
