Description

A lovely specimen of the new Hyalite Opal from Zacatecas, Mexico. It features a glassy group of transparent botryoidal growths on matrix. This material first appeared last year at Tucson. In addition to the fact that it is gemmy it has the extraordinary property of fluorescing strongly in daylight! In fact, it fluoresces in almost all types of light, neon light, LED light, daylight and, of course, UV light (SW image attached). The only light with which it doesn’t react with is incandescent. As these are so new the locality is still very vague however time should clarify the locality as well as the reason why they fluoresce so strongly. I have been fortunate to obtain a few of these opals at a competitive rate and comparable specimens of the material are currently on offer from dealers on Minfind at prices considerably higher than these starting values.
