Gmelinite With Analcime

Type Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Little Deerpark Quarry, Glenarm, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom
Size Range:
Cabinet (10-18 cm)
Size:
10 × 9.5 × 4.5 cm
Description

I have been collecting at the type locality for Gmelinite for more than 20 yrs and, although I have found many nice specimens, never exposed any of the special specimens that I knew to exist there (i.e. like a couple Harry Foy showed me). Recently my luck changed and as a result I will, over the next few weeks, be offering some of these along with a couple from my own collection that have been ousted by superior specimens from my new find. This specimen is one from the new find and comprises of strongly coloured§ gmelinite crystals up to 0.7 cm across with a scattering of water clear analcime crystals on top. Gmelinite from the type locality is typically on top of the analcime. The crystallised area is 5 x 2.5 cm.
