Gmelinite

Type Locality

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Little Deerpark Quarry, Glenarm, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom
Size Range:
Small cabinet (7-10 cm)
Size:
7 × 6 × 6 cm
Description

Occasionally gmelinite from the type locality is found in this unusal but attractive habit. The gmelinite crystals are like sandwiches with opaque main faces and a particularly gemmy filling. This specimen is an aggregation of crystals with some of the largest crystal edges I have ever seen from the locality (up to 1.0cm). It has been trimmed by saw on the back and base to reduce the matrix but this is not obvious in display. This is the last specimen I currently have of this habit.
