Analcime

Description Tabs

Description
Locality:
Little Deerpark Quarry, Glenarm, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom
Size Range:
Small cabinet (7-10 cm)
Size:
7 × 4.5 × 4 cm
Description

Very rare radial analcime in a basalt vug (2.5 x 1.5cm). The crystals are ultra-lustrous which does not show best in the photograph. In the right light refraction produces the colours of the spectrum along some of the crystals (final photograph). About 50% of the crystals are terminated at one end while the others contact the matrix. Very unusual with a unique beauty of its own. If you are interested in unusual habits in zeolites please look at the gmelinite I have listed.
