Description

Here I am offering an impressive prismatic tourmlaine var. elbaite from the classical Otjua Farm in Namibia. This crystal consists of one major prism that has several "spray-type" side car crystals, several penetrator crystal growths and one adjacent rider cyrstal.  The main crystal as well as the major side crystal are double terminated (the major is recrystallized after a in situ break). All of the penetrator and spray like sidecar crystals are terminated except one which is hardly distracting and not even visible in my preferred display angle. Otherwise, this piece is basically pristine.  Outwordly the piece appears a deep green with a touch of pink and a partial brown coating of some microcrystalline mineral (perhaps the uncommon vanadate mineral pucherite but this is speculation), but when backlit (Image #8) the piece shows two shades of green, some deep blue, pink, and yellow. Despite its appearance the piece is quite translucent. Finally there is a single double terminated quartz crystal attached to the main crystal.  Save the one missing termination this is free of damage.
