Description

A tourmaline that needs no introduction: 1978 classic Jonas Mine Rubellite.  The 1978 Jonas Mine find has set the standard for top quality and color rubellite tourmaline and was unrivaled until the 2013 Cruzeiro rubellite find.  This is a double terminated (recrystallized on both terminations) bright rubellite red/pink crystal with an attached sidecar crystal and scattered lilac colored lepidolite characteristic of Jonas material.  It has top luster and good translucency that really pops when backlit (Image #1). This material was quickly bought up and is rarely (if ever) avaialble on the open market. I purchased this a couple years back from Joerg Wittig and am movingit on as I focus my collection solely on the beryl family of minerals.  The main crystal is undamaged, while the sidecar is missing some of its termination but does not detract from the display aesthetics.
