Description

A sample of titaniferous magnetite in basalt matrix. Comes with an early 20th century label.

The abandoned basalt quarry Bennauer Kopf (a.k.a. Steimelskopf) is located west of Bennau village. The quarry has been active from the 19th century until the end of the 1950ties. Nowadays the quarry is flooded and a nature protection area.
