Description

A very beautiful and very rare specimen of cadmium smithsonite. The specimen is of particular geological interest because the smithsonite is crystallized at levels showing a gap between them. It should be emphasized that this particular variety of smithsonite has not been found in any particular Lavrion mine except in ancient estuaries in very few specimens. Generally in Lavrion varieties of yellow smithsonite have been found but not of such morphology and bright yellow color. The thickness of the cadmium smithsonite reaches 2.3 cm. where it is joined to a matrix rock layer and a thin gray / blue smithsonite layer is re-created on the other side. A truly fantastic sample.
