Description

Nice specimen with purplish hackmanite crystals, a photochrome variety of sodalite containing some S, in bladed richterite matrix. Please note: prior to the photograph the hackmanite was irradiated with a UV lamp, which causes the more or less strong purplish colour. This colour fades quite quickly to a light purple but can be "reloaded" again by exposing to UV light again. This is called reversible photochromism or tenebrescence. Backside partially sawn flat but unobtrusive.
